Dental sedation is not usually offered for regular dental cleanings or checkups, however we may be able to offer it to those patients who suffer from extreme anxiety. Here, our Surrey dentists explain more.
Who needs sedation for dentistry?
If you suffer from any of the following issues, you might consider dental sedation for even routine dental procedures such as cleanings and checkups:
- General anxiety disorder
- Previous bad experience(s) with dental work
- Unusually sensitive oral nerves
- Phobia around dental procedures
- Small mouth that becomes sore during dental work
- Resistance to local anesthetic
If you suffer from any of the above, dental sedation can help you to undergo the dental treatment that you need.
Dental sedation is normally used when patients require procedures such as root canals, tooth extractions, and dental implant procedures.
For routine dental cleanings, x-rays, and other basic dental care, dental sedation is not typically offered. However, cases of extreme anxiety may be considered a viable reason for sedation during those procedures.
How do I know if dental sedation is right for me?
Talk to your dentist about dental sedation if you tend to feel extremely anxious about the prospect of going to the dentist. Your dentist will be able to advise you on whether dental sedation is right for you, and if so, what type would be most beneficial in your case.
